HP's Woes / September 7, 2006

  • Something that continually amazes me is how remarkably juvenile corporate America can be. The latest example is Hewlett-Packard spying on its own board via impersonation and hacked phone records. Now HP is under investigation by the SEC and the California Attorney General.

For a board member to leak information to the press is bad enough, but the fallout from this act of corporate espionage will be far more damaging than the original leak.

Chairwoman Patricia Dunn has seemingly failed to realize that in today’s world, stuff like this is going to make news sooner rather than later. For her to place personal interests ahead of those of employees and shareholders represents an embarrassing error in judgment.
